Celebrating 31 Years

Minority Outreach has reached a tremendous milestone – 31 Years!
What started with the Fourteen Black Men of Glynn’s Torchbearers Program in the early 90s was expanded to include young male middle school students who were struggling academically, and lacked a strong male influence. They would become known as the Boys of Summer.

These young men would spend four weeks on the College of Coastal Georgia Campus getting one-on-one instruction in areas of Mathematics, Language Arts, and Computer Science – in the hopes that these young men would find the value in education and go on to graduate from high school and college.

Over the years, the program has evolved from being academic-focused to empowerment-focused. In 2017, the Girls of Summer program was added to allow young female students to attend. Today, the Boys and Girls of Summer programs emphasize career exploration, mentorship, and building life skills that both empower and motivate young Black students to become high school graduates, college graduates, and pillars of our community.

To maintain these exceptional programs, we need continued support. This year, our goal is to raise $31,000 for the 31st year of the program. We would like you to consider donating $31 to the Minority Outreach Program to ensure that these programs can continue to prepare students to be the next generation of great leaders.
