Brunswick, GA – Twenty-four 7th graders from Glynn Middle School completed an illustrated class project that won them a field trip to the Nunnally Health and Science Center on the campus of the College of Coastal Georgia.
The members of Mrs. Klahn’s science class each selected an animal to compare to human anatomy and systems, learning about skeletons, circulation, breathing, and genetics. Accompanied by Mrs. Klahn and class paraprofessional Mrs. Dock, class members participated in a series of multi-disciplinary activities that included simulating x-rays with craft supplies, led by Dr. Sarah Hartman, Assistant Professor of Education; touring the radiology lab and viewing examples of x-rays with the guidance of John Eichinger, Program Director for Radiologic Sciences at the College; constructing DNA models assisted by Joyce Tate, Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing and Coordinator of Nursing Labs, and College students Mary Leitzel and Hali Thornton, as well as experiencing the life-like simulations of different heart and lung sound in the SimLabs.
The field trip was organized by Dr. Lydia Watkins, Assistant Professor of Nursing and Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
