Brunswick, GA – The School of Education and Teacher Preparation at the College of Coastal Georgia hosted the second annual Mentor Teacher’s Awards Ceremony centering on the theme “Forming Alliances Through Mentoring” on Monday evening at the Southeast Georgia Conference Center. Administrators, principals, and teachers from the surrounding school districts were invited to attend.
Through the School of Education and Teacher Preparation mentoring program, teacher candidates at the College of Coastal Georgia were paired with graduates who were first-year teachers.
“The Golden Isles teachers represent some of the best and the brightest in the state,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Tracy Pellett. “Tonight we celebrate the alliances that are formed through the mentoring process and recognize those teachers who have given so selflessly of their time to the next generation of educators. ‘It takes a village’ applies as much to the training of teachers as it does to educating students. We are fortunate to have such a supportive system here in the Golden Isles.”
Brunswick Mayor Cornell Harvey was on hand to recognize principals and mentor teachers of the 23 participating schools who served as collaborative field experience sites for teacher candidates. The event also included a panel discussion with CCGA graduates, Christina Brantley, Robert Cannon, and Randall Rozier, who this past year, served as mentors, discussing the benefits of the program. Bonnie Tuttell, Dr. Patricia Chiarelli, and Dr. Russell Sgro led a panel discussion for the 2016-2017 mentors.
McIntosh County Schools Superintendent Dr. John Barge offered the keynote address. The Glynn County Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy, through Dr. Ron Reigner, donated a set of the “Suki” series books by Joyce Blackburn to each person in attendance at the ceremony.
