Congratulations to the Mariners’ Men’s and Women’s Golf teams. Both were victorious this week in their season-opener tournaments.

The Women’s Golf team captured the title of the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational, beating NCAA Division II’s Palm Beach Atlantic by just one stroke.

“I’m very proud of the girls for winning their first event of the season,” said head coach Nicole Johns. “It was a very close tournament, coming down to just one stroke. I’m looking forward to seeing what we do the rest of this season.”

The two-day tournament was held at the Jekyll Island Golf Club – Pine Lakes Course.

The Men’s Golf team captured its 30th NAIA tournament title in the program’s eighth year of competition with a decisive victory in the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational held at Sea Island Golf Club – Retreat Course. Spurred on by the stellar performance of senior Mark David Johnson, the Mariners sailed into a win with a four-stroke lead over their nearest competitor, Keiser University.

“I’m very proud on how prepared our team was for this tournament,” said head coach Mike Cook. “They came out ready to play and had many sub-par rounds. This was a very strong start to a long season.”

Both teams will next head to Valdosta for the Thomas University Fall Invitational, which begins on September 24.
