Dr. Jim Fullerton Memorial and Scholarship

Dr. Jim Fullerton, professor of management and leadership development here at the College of Coastal Georgia and a beloved faculty member, passed away in late October.

Fullerton joined the College’s School of Business and Public Management in Fall 2011. He enjoyed teaching leadership skills to students for their future success. He was a third-generation educator who believed in learning through experience, and he incorporated active learning into all his courses.

Fullerton received his doctorate in human sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, his master’s degree in public administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and his bachelor’s in journalism (advertising) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He attended over 60 conferences in 25 states and four countries and published numerous articles in journals and conference proceedings. At his previous job as the leadership program director at Idaho State University, Fullerton developed a minor in leadership studies in collaboration with their College of Business and their College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Fullerton was also an avid traveler. He visited 30 countries on four continents, and backpacked and climbed in the Alps, Andes, and Himalayas. He was able to share his enthusiasm for international education and cultural exploration with students by participating in the USG Goes Global, the study abroad program for the University System of Georgia. He taught study abroad courses in Ireland during the summers of 2019 and 2022, and this past summer, he taught in Porto, Portugal for the first time. Fullerton promoted cross-cultural understanding and dialogue, and inspired students to step outside their comfort zones to embrace the world.

In honor of Dr. Fullerton’s commitment to global awareness and citizenship, the Study Abroad Scholarship has been renamed the “Dr. Jim Fullerton Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship” to continue his legacy and support students studying abroad.
