The College of Coastal Georgia contributed more than $102.8 million to the regional economy in fiscal 2023, and created more than 950 jobs—making a significant impact in the region’s economic development. This is according to a study released by the University System of Georgia (USG), conducted by Dr. Jeffrey M Humphreys, director of the Selig Center for Economic Growth in the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. Overall, the USG contributed a total of $21.9 billion to the state’s economy, including 163,332 full- and part-time jobs.

College of Coastal Georgia Interim President Dr. Johnny Evans Jr. believes the study underscores the College’s role as a key driver of local economic growth and development.

“The College of Coastal Georgia is more than just an institution of higher learning—it’s a catalyst for economic vitality,” Evans said. “Fostering innovation through the Lucas Center for Entrepreneurship, creating jobs, and energizing the community with opportunities for career growth are highly important to us.”

A companion study was also conducted analyzing lifetime earnings for the USG’s Class of 2023. The study found that bachelor’s degree graduates from the Class of 2023 will earn $1.4 million more during their lifetime than they would have without their college degree.

“Our economic impact extends beyond our Brunswick campus and the Camden Center. Earning a degree from Coastal Georgia sets students on a trajectory towards success and provides them with the tools and mindset to give back and enrich their communities,” Evans said. “We are thrilled to see the profound impact the College has in the region. This reaffirms our dedication to continuing our role in serving as a cornerstone for both educational excellence and community development.”
