Coastal Georgia School of Business and Public Affairs to Offer Fourth Lecture in Economic Series

Brunswick, GA – Art professor Jeff LeMieux is always seeking good venues to showcase students’ art works. This year, he has a date and a location he believes will bring the biggest audience yet to the show: off campus, in the Brunswick-Glynn County Library, 208 Gloucester Street, on May 1 – downtown’s celebratory First Friday of the month. The opening two-hour reception will begin at 5 p.m.

Eighteen students will be exhibiting in a range of media, according to LeMieux, from photography, pastels and paintings to sculpture and ceramics.

“We’ve moved to a new location on campus, the remodeled Academic Commons South, with improved facilities that include both 2-D and 3-D studios,” LeMieux said, “but we are delighted to be exhibiting off campus so that the community can see the caliber of what these students produce.”

The Coastal Georgia art program is a university-level transfer program that concentrates on technical and conceptual fundamentals of visual art, according to LeMieux. “Our motto is that the best work comes from the free play of the well-trained hand. When you sign your name, you’re using all the manual skills and eye/hand coordination that the best artists use. What you lack is an idea about what to draw and how to draw it, which can be learned.”

“Every year we have some very high quality student work and this year is no exception,” LeMieux said. “The painters took off early and have produced some very strong work from the start.”

Non-traditional student Cherry Chambers, a photographer, enrolled to learn more about color, shading and perspective. “I thought it might improve my len’s eye view of my surroundings. Something altogether wonderful and unexpected happened. I became friends with translucent colors, washes, and glazing. The familiar camera lens was transformed into an artist’s multi-dimensional eye; a flat photographic failure on paper became a flowing landscape on canvas.  And I’m just beginning!”

“I am proud to exhibit this work as an indication of the solid quality of our program,” LeMieux concluded.
