Brunswick, GA – Charles Seabrook will be visiting the Brunswick campus of the College of Coastal Georgia on December 5 as a special guest of the Center for Service-Learning and the Conservation Biology class taught by Dr. Tate Holbrook, Assistant Professor of Biology, School of Arts and Sciences.
In a program open to the community, Seabrook will discuss his book, The World of the Salt Marsh: Appreciating and Protecting the Tidal Marshes of the Southeastern Atlantic Coast, at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 5 in the Stembler Theatre of the Campus Center. He will be available to sign books following the free program.
Seabrook will also be visiting the Conservation Biology class, which has been engaged in a service-learning project at Cannon’s Point Preserve in partnership with the St. Simons Land Trust and Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The ongoing project includes assessing the biological impact of a “living shoreline,” a bank-stabilization technique designed to promote wildlife habitat and the ecosystem services provided by salt marshes. The students will be sharing their experiences and findings from their fall 2014 efforts with the author.
Seabrook’s book, The World of the Salt Marsh, was named one of the ten “Books All Georgians Should Read” for 2014 by the Advisory Council for the Georgia Center for the Book. Seabrook also writes the “Wild Georgia” column for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where he worked as a science reporter for more than 30 years. His other works include Cumberland Island: Strong Women, Wild Horses.
Copies of The World of the Salt Marsh will be available for purchase from the College bookstore in the Campus Center.
