College Receives Tree Campus Recognition

For the fifth consecutive year, the College of Coastal Georgia has received the 2020 Tree Campus Higher Education recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to the campus environment.

Tree Campus Higher Education, formerly known as Tree Campus USA, is a program of the Arbor Day Foundation that recognizes college and university campuses that effectively manage trees and engages the campus community in environmental conservation.

The College met the five standards of the recognition, which include having a campus tree advisory committee, a campus tree care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for the program, an Arbor Day observance, and a service-learning project.

In November 2020, students and staff participated in planting a new tree at the Brunswick campus and learned the importance of taking care of the environment. The tree was then dedicated to the life and memory of Associate Professor of English Michael Hannaford who passed in 2018. Hannaford served at the College for 25 years and was loved for his curmudgeonly personality bolstered by a true passion for the institution. Along with the newly planted tree, a sundial was dedicated to Hannaford at the Camden Center in honor for all that he’s done for the College.
