Mariners add another signee

Brunswick, Ga. – College of Coastal Georgia women’s basketball coach Roger Hodge is proud to announce another new signee who will join the Mariners in time for next season.
The team’s latest signee is Romny Felts, a 5-foot-6 guard from Shelbyville, Tenn., who played on the same AAU team with fellow Coastal Georgia signee Sydney Seagroves.
Felts is the fourth new addition for the Mariners in the 2017 recruiting class.

Her accomplishments: 1,000 point scorer, 8-AAA District Tournament MVP, 8-AAA District All-Tournament 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, 8-AAA All District Team 2014-2015, 2015-2016 and 2016-2017, team was 8-AAA District champions 2016-2017.
What high school coach says: “I am super proud and excited for Romny for being able to continue her basketball career at the next level. She works very hard and I think she will be a great asset to the Coastal Georgia program,” said Kim Dye, head coach at Shelbyville Central.
What AAU coaches say: “Romny is a great kid with a lot of talent,” said Joe Bonham of the Tennessee Flight. “As a former Division I coach, I think there were a lot of teams that missed out on her. I can’t wait to see what she does with the Mariners.”
“Having played for and worked with Coach Hodge, I knew Romny would be someone that he would love to have play for him,” said Tasha Bonham, also coach of the Flight. “Her determination and abilities are going to make her a very successful player at the college level. I am very happy for Romny and for Coastal Georgia Basketball. I have no doubt that she will have a great career and help Mariner Basketball win championships.”
What Coach Hodge says: “One of our needs in this class was a physical wing player that could defend and get to the rim. Romny not only fits that description but also is a solid shooter that rebounds extremely well for a perimeter player. She has a unique combination of skills and plays as hard as anyone you will see.
“She has a 3.97 GPA, so she also is a great student. Romny is another kid that played with Joe and Tasha Bonham of the Tennesse Flight, so we know she has played against some of the best competition in the country. In addition, Kim Dye of Shelbyville Central was her high school coach and she played at the University of Florida. Therefore, I know Romny has been exposed to someone who understands what it takes to succeed at a very high level.
Between these three coaches, Romny could not have been better-coached and prepared to step in and help us right away. We are very fortunate that she chose to be a Mariner and we are excited to have her.
