Mariners Take to the Road

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Several road events are coming up on Coastal Georgia Athletics’ schedule for the week of Sept. 24-30. Also, two more away golf tournaments are on the horizon.

Men’s golf begins the week with the 36-hole, two-day Thomas University Invitational.

Volleyball plays two away Sun Conference matches on Wednesday and Saturday.

Men’s and women’s tennis is scheduled to compete in the four-day ITA Small College Regional Championships Wednesday-Saturday.

Meanwhile, both men’s and women’s golf will have tournaments early next week. The men’s golf team travels to Tarpon Springs, Fla., for the USCB Sand Shark Fall Invitational, while the women’s golf team is also competing in the USCB Sand Shark Fall Invitational up in Okatie, S.C.

Men’s Golf at Thomas University Invitational
Monday, Sept. 24 and Tuesday, Sept. 25 || All Day || Valdosta, Ga. || Kinderlou Forest Golf Club

About: Coastal Georgia will go for its second team title in as many tournaments as the Mariners compete in their second event of the fall season… Additionally, men’s golf will attempt to repeat as champions of the Thomas University Fall Invitational… Coastal Georgia already set the tone to its season during last week’s Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational, dominating both the team and individual leaderboards en route to multiple records being broken… Coastal Georgia was the only team to shoot under par for its own tournament, ending the 54-hole contest with a 27-under 837… Individually, Mark David Johnson led from start to finish, entering the clubhouse with an impressive 17-under 199.

Coastal Georgia Team Finishes at Thomas University Fall Invitational: 2017 – T-1st of 13 (12-under 564); 2016 – 6th of 12 (24-over 600); 2015 – 2nd of 13 (17-under, 559); 2014 – 1st of 9 (3-under 573); 2013 – 2nd of 13 (4-over 580); 2012 – 4th of 12 (18-over 594).

About: Coastal Georgia’s next five matches are all against Sun Conference opponents and on the road… The venture begins with Wednesday’s match at Warner… Although they did not play each other, Coastal Georgia and Warner opened the season at Coastal Georgia’s own Mariner Invitational in mid-August… Coastal Georgia will attempt to string together consecutive conference wins as the Mariners come off a 3-0 sweep on Ave Maria last Saturday at Coffin Gym… Individually, Kyra White is closing in on the all-time kills record for Coastal Georgia. White enters the week with 1,215 kills and is only 26 away from breaking Allie Shannon’s mark of 1,240.

About: Coastal Georgia faces a Johnson & Wales team who is playing its third match of the week on Saturday… Saturday’s match is also the first of three-straight to the south Florida for the Mariners as they also travel to that region next weekend for matches at Keiser and Florida Memorial

Women’s Golf at USCB Sand Shark Fall Invitational
Monday, Oct. 1 and Tuesday, Oct. 2 || All Day || Okatie, S.C. || Oldfield Golf Club

About: Coastal Georgia plays its third tournament of the fall season… The Mariners will play 54 holes at the Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie, S.C… It will be two weeks in between tournaments for the Mariners, who were last in action at the 54-hole Keiser Kup by Golfino Sept. 16-18… Coastal Georgia finished in sixth place at the Keiser Kup with a score of 109-over 973… Kylee Wheeler paced the Mariners with a 23-over 239 , which is the program’s third-lowest score for a 54-hole tournament.
