Brunswick, GA – At around 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 9, campus police and both the Glynn County and Brunswick Fire Departments responded to a call of a fire in the Student Activity Center on the Brunswick campus. The fire was caused by a mini fridge in a storage area.
Bryan Sipe, Director and Chief of Police of the Campus Safety Department, said no one was injured by the fire but that there is heavy smoke damage in the north end of the building. The electrical power supply to the entire building was turned off as a precaution.
The fire departments and Plant Operations personnel assessed the damage and determined that the building will reopen Tuesday, January 10 but the Brig will remain closed through Tuesday for cleaning. The fitness facility will possibly reopen on Wednesday, January 11.
