President Hosts Book Discussion

In honor of the upcoming screen adaption of Madeline L’Engle’s classic novel “A Wrinkle in Time,” College of Coastal Georgia Interim President Meg Amstutz has invited a group of students to join her for a book discussion before the movie’s release.

The acclaimed, sci-fi novel follows young heroine Meg Murry, her brother Charles Wallace, and her friend Calvin as they search for Meg’s father, who has vanished. First published in 1962, the novel received the Newberry Prize in 1963 and has been translated into 35 languages.

Amstutz is an avid reader and fan of the book.

“I met the author when I was in 7th grade, and she made a big impression on me,” Amstutz said. “‘A Wrinkle in Time’ is a great classic with messages and themes that have remained relevant. One of the major themes of the book is conformity and I believe it’s important to have discussions with students who are at a critical point in their lives, where they are making decisions about their future. The discussion is a wonderful opportunity to explore the central themes of the book and talk with students about pursuing their own passions.”

A few slots remain for the group and interested students can pick up their copy of the book from the Office of the President. The discussion will be held March 6 at 8 p.m. in the Mariner Village Multipurpose Room at the College.

The movie adaption stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and Chris Pine and is due to hit theaters March 9.
